APD Engineering were contracted by PLP to engineer and design three new 1.5MVA and one 1MVA 11/0.433kV kiosk substations, powerline modifications and power and fibre…
APD has been immersed within the National Broadband Network (nbn) program of works since 2011.
The diversity of services we offer to the nbn program range from engineering support, power supplies for equipment, field based data collection, existing network assessment and interfacing with electrical utilities.
We provide a high-quality engineering and design consulting service within the government, utility, mining, oil & gas, as well as land development sectors. We are a well-established private provider of electrical engineering services nationally.
Our strength in servicing the nbn program of projects, is utilising our experience in delivering high volume work programs to the required timeframes, while maintaining safety and quality in the data provided. We achieve this, through our quality, health & safety and environmental management systems. These allow APD to appropriately resource the programs without sacrificing quality or safety as well as transition to the ever changing National Broadband Network processes.
With our solid delivery record and a diverse range of technical skills, specialised software and state-of-the-art equipment, APD are outcome-focused and continually strive to remove barriers to innovation, while adding value to clients.
APD has extensive experience in conforming to a wide variety of utility and mining company standards allowing a quick and seamless transition to gaining accreditations with additional service providers.
APD are currently accredited to complete works direct for the following utilities:
APD have experience in delivering Hybrid Fibre Coaxial (HFC) projects for overhead, underground as well as inside building complexes.
APD successfully helped deliver the Optus trial of 8 SAMs in the Redcliffe, Scarborough area (QLD) as well as multiple SAMs across the various power utility networks in Victoria.
APD also provided survey service to validate existing pit/pole conditions, LIC (lead-in conduit) verification, HFC tap validation, ground clearance assessments for proposed HFC SDU across NSW and Victoria.
We can site survey, evaluate the existing arrangements (including NDT / nail pole / pole condition assessments), propose cost effective rectifications, detailed design as well as help facilitate the entire power utility and 3rd party approval processes.
APD provide full turn-key network infrastructure solutions under an EPC or EPCM model. We possess the full range of engineering and procurement capability and leverage industry recognized construction partners.
APD is independent from any construction company hence providing independent tendering and construction management to ensure a safe, quality project is delivered on time and on budget.
APD have completed Make Ready Work design drawings to complement the fibre design drawings for multiple utilities. APD are familiar with the utility design and drafting standards to create Make Ready Works plans compliant to each utility.
APD have completed field scoping for SDS drops including but not limited to:
APD have complete SDS drop designs using both Field Inspection and LiDAR data collection methods. Using resources also trained in nbn design on site ensure potential issues with installing SDS drops are captured and resolved early in the process.
APD have worked with clients to obtain the information required to be collected and create a final deliverable easy to process by the fibre planners.
APD have a proven delivery record for completing electrical design services for utility power supply connection for both Individual and large-scale programs across Western Australia, New South Wales and Queensland.
APD have completed electrical design for the power supplies to over 40 communication towers installed as part of the nbn project as well as power supplies for Fibre Access Nodes (FANs).
APD were also involved in designing over 250 power supply upgrades and connections as part of the federal government Building Education Revolution (BER) program.
APD have completed existing communication network inspections to determine the existing pit and equipment suitability to interface with the new nbn fibre designs. The assessments are based on the equipment condition and ensure that the proposed equipment can be installed in the existing pits.
APD have previously trialled and completed field scoping using LiDAR data. APD have developed internal procedures to process/cleanse the point cloud data efficiently and directly import to a large range of powerline design software as per the different utility requirements.
APD have also used previous experience with both the detailed fibre design and SDS design to ensure the required data is extracted for each situation. Please refer to the case studies for further information.
APD have a proven delivery record for complex aerial design ( FTTP, FTTN, FTTc & HFC). APD have completed projects for all utilities in New South Wales and Queensland by adapting to the local design requirements and parameters to deliver a design acceptable to the utility.
We have assisted working with utilities to achieve the first approved nbn designs for Ergon Energy and Essential Energy.
APD have worked with multiple Delivery Partners & nbn to ‘close the gap’ between the electrical and fibre plan by providing information and fibre design solutions early in the project to ensure the overall project delivery isn’t impacted.
In additional to the Complex aerial LFN design, APD have been involved in aerial transit link designs to connect major telecommunication centres. The works have included the field assessment, Aerial Design in Power Transmission Network (PLS-Pole, PLS-CADD), pit location selection and submissions for utility approvals.
APD have completed numerous 3rd party pit and pipe designs to nbn and Telstra standards for residential, commercial and light industrial developments across New South Wales, Queensland and Western Australia.
We have been heavily involved with nbn projects since the program’s initiation in 2011 and have provided feedback and code enhancement for the original nbn tool set that was released to the industry.
APD also have staff experienced with provision of construction assistance for a number of the larger 3rd party pit and pipe developments that we have undertaken the design component for.
APD have previous experience and knowledge gained in completing large scale conformance checks for both distribution and transmission power lines. APD are always looking a new equipment to ensure the field inspection process is completed in an efficient way while maintaining a high standard of safety and quality.
APD provide a comprehensive 1 pass field inspection with resources trained in nbn aerial design which gathers all the required data for nbn aerial design including but not limited to
